Today, men’s tennis has a reason to be excited. We’ve been lucky enough to see Federer and Nadal counter punch over the last few seasons. It has been a tremendous ride by two of the best tennis has ever seen, but now there is so much more to watch.
Andy Murray, who briefly took over the number 2 ranking, is one tournament away from putting his footprint on tennis. You have Djokivic who has been in the top 4 since I can remember and is always a tough out. Andy Roddick, the new and improved, has finally shown the guts to warrant a top 5 ranking. Throw in Del Potro’s recent US Open championship and we have ourselves quite the top six in men’s tennis. The strength of the men’s ranking continues with exciting players like Tsonga, Verdasco and Monfils each showing signs to possibly rounding out one of the best top 10’s tennis has ever seen.
Anytime these guys face off against each other it is a hard fought skilled match leaving you wanting more. This is the reason the popularity of tennis is on the rise, in my house and around the world.
Current top 7 rankings

- Rafael Nadal – 8845pts
- Andy Murray – 8390pts
- Novak Djokovic – 7480pts
- Juan Martin Del Potro – 6825pts
- Andy Roddick – 5310pts
Either way, I pose a question to you. Is Tiger Woods act getting old? I can’t help but notice his lack of a smile during any round, his seeming unawareness of the fans who for the most part have paid to watch him play, his temper tanchrums after every miss hit, his club throwing, his spitting and his foul mouth.
The respect for his game and his accomplishments will always be there, but where has his respect for this gentleman’s game gone. At the PGA Championship, on a Sunday with Tiger in his final round red shirt and in the hunt, I found myself rooting for someone else to win. I used to pray and hope for Tiger Woods to be at or near the top of the leader board come Sunday to peak my interest, no longer is this the case. No question about it, Tiger has done absolute wonders for the sport, it has become a major draw and led to numerous children imitating and one day hoping to become him. Unfortunately, Tiger has seemed to forgotten that last part.
He needs to remember whose watching and whose looking up to him. He needs to remember the great players before him and how they treated the game. Luckily we have caught Tigers behavior early enough and he has time to reverse this ugly trend. Here is hoping I will once again cheer on the greatest golfer to ever live.
