NFL Season Update We are a about a third of the way through the football season and here’s what we know so far. For every great team, we have a team that probably couldn’t win a college game. There have been some nice surprises and bitter disappointments.

The New York Giants have not only figured out how to play without Plaxico, but they might be even better then the 2008 championship team. This weeks game against New Orleans will go a long way in showing us who the best team in the NFC, if not the league, currently is. The Vikings are lurking, but I’m betting on another Favre end of season fade away.
Peyton and Eli Manning Is there anything scarier for a team, more specifically a defense, than a hot, confident and healthy Peyton Manning? He hasn’t looked this good in a couple years and has his team rolling. The Broncos are a nice surprise after the horrific off season debacle that was Jay Cutler. They showed they were for real last week by beating the Patriots. We can’t overlook the Pats just yet, same can be said for the defending champs.

Sadly, this season has shown us numerous organizations that have such a long climb back to respectability. I can’t remember the last time so many teams just weren’t competitive. You have the lack of talent: Raiders, Rams, Browns, Bucs and Chiefs; and you have the lack of drive: Redskins, Bucs, Jags, Bills and Panthers. The surprise of the year has to be the Titans, who are a victim of their own success last year with an unbearable schedule and no luck they still sit winless.

It can all change over the next few months, but it’s always interesting to see just how much. Hopefully Ryan gets that Jets defense in order so they can stay in the conversation. At the moment though my prediction for the Super bowl is a Manning brother showdown. Can you imagine the commercial possibilities???

The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship The NY Jets finally got this one right.

There have been down right scratch-your-head awful choices in Bruce Coslet, Rich Kotite and Al Groh. There have been highly anticipated yet disappointing choices in Pete Carroll, Bill Parcells and Herman Edwards. Then there was Man-genius, the can’t miss New England prodigy who acted like the paul bearer at the NY Jets funeral over the last three years.
Rex Ryan Jets Today however Jet fans have reason to smile, reason to get excited and reason to believe this time there will be no disappointment. Rex Ryan has come to NY and put his hand print all over this organization, something previous coaches had a hard time with.

Ryan understands New York and has already won over many of its fans, not only with respect to winning, but mainly with his attitude. If we never heard Ryan talk all you would need to do is listen to the players. They are willing to sweat, bleed, fight and claw their way to victory for this man.

Players and Jet fans alike needed a coach they could stand behind and not get laughed at. Ryan will support his players, their fans and this organization for many years to come. He will give us a football team we can finally be proud of each and every Sunday, win or lose.

Rex Ryan’s Career:

- Ryan was a defensive line/linebackers coach for the Arizona Cardinals from 1994 to 1995, when his dad, Buddy, was head coach.

- In 1999 Ryan joined the Baltimore Ravens as their Defensive Line coach, earning a Superbowl ring in 2000.

- He was promoted in 2005 to defensive coordinator. A year late Ryan took home the Assistant Coach of the Year awards from Pro Football Weekly and the Pro Football Writers Association.

- Ryan was once again promoted in 2008 to assistant head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.

- January 21st Ryan accepted a 4yr deal from the New York Jets to be their head coach.
